From the editor:

This is our second issue for 2016, our 40th Anniversary of the MEXTESOL Journal. We have a variety of contributions that we are sure you will be interested to read. They come from The University of Texas at San Antonio, The University of Utah, and Universidad Panamericana.

Laila Aghai and Peter Sayer, both from The University of Texas at San Antonio, have contributed the refereed article 'Measuring Persian Speakers' Acquisition of English Phonology across Proficiency Levels' for this issue. This article quantitatively investigates the pronunciation errors Iranian students studying English as a Foreign Language make at different levels of proficiency concerning segmental and suprasegmental features.

The next refereed article was written by M. Sidury Christiansen and Daniela Silva, also from The University of Texas San Antonio. 'Teaching Culture in EFL Classrooms in Mexico: Current Practices and Pedagogical Recommendations' examines the teaching of culture in EFL classrooms specifically in the Programa Nacional de Inglés en Educación Básica (PNIEB) in Mexico and calls attention to the fact that culture generally is seen as a presentation of stereotypes. Pedagogical suggestions are made on how cultural awareness can be included more effectively in these EFL classes.

Our third article is by Randall Davis (The University of Utah) and he explores his journey of changes during his professional development of twenty-five years in the article 'Finding New Pathways in a Dynamically-Changing Profession'. Specifically he looks at his challenges concerning educational technology and on-line technology.

Sooner or later, most people will have to take some kind of exam. The way we face those exams will have an impact on how we perform on them. In her column titled 'Test Anxiety: Fact or Fiction? Part 1', Josefina C. Santana of Universidad Panamericana, discusses test anxiety 'an emotional reaction some people have when faced with evaluations.

JoAnn Miller, the Associate Editor for Refereed Articles of the MEXTESOL Journal, provides our readers with 'The MEXTESOL Journal: 1992-1999: Moving Slowly into the Future'. It is the second part of the series recounting the history of the MEXTESOL Journal during its fortieth anniversary, the period from 1992 until 1999 is related.

'Native Versus Non-Native Speaker: Professionalism over Inheritance' was written by Peter Hubbard in 1992 for the MEXTESOL Journal. This reprinted article discusses a number of differences between native and non-native speaking teachers and if this dichotomy makes a difference or not, how these differences affect the English teaching profession in Mexico, whether English teaching can be considered a profession or not, and what the limits of our professionalism are in the English teaching community in Mexico. Peter Hubbard was a respected professional of that era and we remember his work in MEXTESOL and MJ.

Please remember that the conference proposal deadline is coming up on May 15th and this year the 43rd International MEXTESOL Conference will be in Monterrey. We invite you to join us for our numerous events of MEXTESOL Journal events at the conference where we will continue celebrating our 40th Anniversary. If you are reading this, why not think of sending us a contribution and this will be a way that you can give back to MJ and also MEXTESOL...
