From the editor:

This issue is the last for 2017 and we have articles from Indonesia and a variety of places in Mexico (Chetumal, Xalapa, Guanajuato, and Guadalajara). We would like to thank all of the authors who submitted articles this year and our readers who have supported us throughout the years. We also invite you to submit an article for 2018 in Spanish or English. One way to contribute to your profession is through the MEXTESOL Journal.
Our first article is titled 'The Academic Article Word List for Social Sciences' by Deny A. Kwary and Almira F. Artha, both from Airlangga University in Surabaya, Indonesia. This refereed article provides a discussion of the creation of the Academic Article Word List for Social Sciences (AAWL-SS) directed at teachers, researchers, and translators. The method used to build the list is explained and the list is compared to similar existing word lists.
The refereed article 'Variation in Pre-service EFL Teachers' Implicit Theories of Reading: A Qualitative Study' was submitted by Moisés Damián Perales-Escudero (Universidad de Quintana Roo, Chetumal), Paula Busseniers Elsen (Universidad Veracruzana, Xalapa) and María del Rosario Reyes Cruz (Universidad de Quintana Roo, Chetumal). This qualitative study explores the beliefs of 60 pre-service EFL teachers regarding their implicit theories of reading and metatextual knowledge during a change in curriculum design in a university program with three areas of specialization (teaching, translation, and literature).
In 'Weaving Together Teacher Development and Narrative Inquiry: A Conversation with Paula R. Golombek', M. Martha Lengeling and Amanda K. Wilson from the Universidad de Guanajuato interviewed researcher and author Paula Golombek about the use of narrative inquiry in professional development for language teachers. Narrative Inquiry is a research method which draws upon biographical documents and stories to understand how people make meaning in their lives.
Most language teachers understand the value of pair or group work in the classroom. In her column 'More than Group Work: Collaborative Communication', Josefina C. Santana of the Universidad Panamericana discusses how to take group work to a higher level, in order to attain meaningful learning.
Amanda K. Wilson (Universidad de Guanajuato, Guanajuato) has submitted a review of the book Key Issues in Language Teaching. This recent volume offers insight into current developments in the state of English language teaching around the world today. Authored by Jack C. Richards from his extensive work in the field of ELT as a teacher and teacher educator, this book is essential reading for both novice and experienced teachers.
As a reminder, the 44th International MEXTESOL Convention will be held from November 9-12, 2017 in León, Guanajuato. We hope to see you at the convention and please stop by the booth to talk to us about the MEXTESOL Journal. ...
