From the editor:

This is our third issue for 2016 and as time goes by, we are getting closer to the 43rd International MEXTESOL Conference where we will continue to celebrate our 40th Anniversary of the MEXTESOL Journal. For this issue we have a total of six contributions: two refereed articles, two non-refereed articles, a column contribution and an interview. These articles come from the United States, Sonora, Puebla, Guadalajara, and Guanajuato.

First, 'Telecollaboration: Participation and Negotiation of Meaning in Synchronous and Asynchronous Activities' is a refereed article by Chesla Ann Bohinski (Binghamton University). This qualitative study examines three students in a telecollaborative exchange (students collaborating online from different geographical locations) to examine how they were able to communicate with limited lexicon and language skills and how the challenges of negotiation of meaning affected their written and oral participation during the initial two weeks of the exchange.

Computer assisted language tests are becoming more and more popular in English language teaching. The refereed article 'Aligning Commercially Available Placement Test Scores to an Existing Language Program' (María Georgina Clark Rivas and Jorge Alejandro Villa Carrillo, Universidad de Sonora) examines the use of a commercial online placement test as an alternative to a paper and pencil exam to discover if these kinds of tests can be aligned to an existing language program using a weighted average criterion.

In their non-refereed article titled 'Principles for the Use, Adaptation, and Development of Didactic Material', María Georgina Fernández Sesma and Gabriel Francisco León Fontes (Universidad de Sonora) offer guidelines for developing and using materials to help students learn languages more effectively.

Next, Connie R. Johnson (Universidad de las Americas, Puebla) is well known for her valuable work within the MEXTESOL Journal and the MEXTESOL association. She recounts her experiences in both in her contribution of 'My Personal Journey with MEXTESOL'.

This issue also offers the second part of Josefina C. Santana's (Universidad Panamericana) column on test anxiety. The author describes a research project she participated in related to student anxiety when taking TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) tests. She discusses the results, and offers some strategies for helping students cope with anxiety.

Finally, M. Martha Lengeling and Irasema Mora Pablo of the Universidad de Guanajuato, interview researcher and author David Graddol. In 'From Linguistic Landscapes to the Status of English: A Conversation with David Graddol', the two interviewers and David Graddol discuss a variety of topics such as the term linguistic landscapes, the future of English in Mexico and the world, flipped classrooms, globalization, bilingualism, to name a few.

Just a reminder that you should start planning for the 43rd International MEXTESOL Conference in Monterrey on October 27-30, 2016. This year the theme is 'Dynamic Teaching: New Trends in ELT'. We hope to see your there and please stop by the MJ booth to help us celebrate. ...
