From the editor:

I think we have a varied issue for you this month. As usual, we have authors from all over the world: Argentina, Iran, Mexico and the United States (Florida and Pennsylvania) and the topics covered go from the practical to the theoretical.

Our first refereed article is by Ali Asadi from Iran, Enhancing Writing Skills of English Learners through Metadiscouse Resources, in which the author presents a carefully executed quantitative study of student improvement on written tasks with and with explicit teaching of metadiscourse resources using 38 intermediate learners at the university level.

Kathleen Tacelosky from Pennsylvania in the United States next gives us her refereed article Teaching English to English Speakers: The Role of English Teachers in the School of Experience of Transnational Students in Mexico. This article discusses an intriguing question: What happens to the children of immigrants who are born and spend years of their lives in the United States when they return to Mexico and enter public middle schools where they are expected to take part in beginning level English courses?

In our third refereed article, ¿Puede la literatura promover el pensamiento crítico en el profesorado en inglés? [Can Literature Inspire Critical Thinking in English Language Teacher Education?], Enrique Alejandro Basabe from Argentina discusses how to use three literary texts with students studying English Literature in a teacher education program at the university level. The activities designed for the classes are presented and a pilot ethnographic study is analyzed.

Orestes Vega from Florida in the United States next presents a non-refereed article, An Analysis of the Most Common Methods Used to Teach English as a Second and Foreign Language, which gives us a pedagogical and linguistic analysis of some of the methods and approaches created during the last 150 years.

Finally, we have in interview by two Mexican authors (Casandra Osornio-Castillo and Edgar Emmanuell García-Ponce) with Dr. Parvaneh Tavakoli, an expert on Task-Based Learning Teaching (TBLT). In the interview they discuss TBLT in the classroom--its implementation and achievement.

We hope you enjoy this issue. Our next issue will be available online on November 1, 2018. Please check out our website (www.mextesol.net) for information about publishing your own article with us. You can communicate directly with the MEXTESOL Journal at mextesoljournal@gmail.com.
